Why should you visit Seville, Spain in the dead of winter?

Updated: May 16, 2019

Orange blossoms, pastel sunsets and most importantly, weather that won't make you melt.

Seville, the Andalusian capital known as the birth place of Flamenco. While temperatures can sky rocket to 90 during the summer months, January stays around a temperate 50. Much better for exploring the city. Here's a few things to do with the extra energy you'll have:

1. Start your day off by wandering the streets of the Santa Cruz neighborhood. You'll easily get lost in the twisty streets and hidden squares. Grab a café con leche at one of the many cafes.

2. Close by is the Alcázar of Seville, or the palace of Seville. The architecture is breathtaking, but the gardens are just as amazing. Fragrant flowers, tilework, mazes, and fountains abound. PLUS it's a Game of Thrones filming location. Get your ticket online to avoid an unnecessarily long wait.

3. Head to Las Setas De Sevilla for stroll on the winding walkway with awesome views of the city. You can also head below to check out ancient Roman ruins that were discovered during the construction.

4. Head over to Mercado Lonja del Barranco, designed by the same architect who designed the eiffel tower, Gustave Eiffel. Originally a fish market, there are now 20 different stalls, each serving up an array of cocktails, tapas and treats.

5. It's best to visit Plaza de España when the soft light of the golden hour is reflecting off the fountain. Stroll around the semi circle to see colorful tiled alcoves. Each one depicts a scene from a different province of Spain.

6. After dark, check out a Flamenco show at the Museo del Baile Flamenco. Make a reservation for the VIP show for a truly intimate experience.
