Photo Diary: Monforte De Lemos - Paseos Solitarios

I taught at two different high schools in Monforte De Lemos for about nine months, IES Rio Cabe and IES Pinguela. There was one day during the week when I had a four-hour break in between classes. This happened to coincide with the siesta, which meant all the shops and many of the restaurants were closed. I lived in Ourense, which was an hour away by train so with nowhere to go and not wanting to sit in the teacher's lounge, I mostly wandered around town; taking photos, practicing conjugating my Spanish verbs, listening to a few (actually more than a few) podcasts, and music.

The town was pretty empty during this time and I usually saw more cats than people. At the end of the year, I left them a large amount of chorizo as a parting gift for keeping me company. If I got hungry there was a bread vending machine connected to a bakery, supplied not only with fresh baguettes but chocolate croissants and other pastries costing no more than €1.50.

By the end, I imagine I walked the same length as the Camino de Santiago. Below you'll find a compilation of photos from these sometimes lonely, always long, afternoon promenades along Rio Cabe in Monforte De Lemos.
