Even in January, Venice is packed with tourists. But this historical playground has a myriad of cultural wonders, stunning architecture and mystique that more than makes up for its crowds.
WHERE WE STAYED: We_Crociferi
The historic building offers a peaceful refuge from the bustling alley ways. You'll find students, world-travelers and locals hanging out in the bar.
WHERE TO EAT: Bar Puppa
A low-key joint with a pre-fix menu that includes pasta, a drink and a coffee. It'll only set you back €15 (Cheap by Venetian standards). Otherwise duck into one of the many bars for a quick bite and cocktail.
WHAT TO DRINK: The Spritz all day
The classic venetian aperitif is a must. Made with a bitter liquor such as Campari or Aperol and then topped with prosecco, soda and an orange slice garnish.
WHAT SOUVENIR: Venice is packed to the brim with shops. But only a few sell souvenirs that are still handmade in the Venetian tradition. One of the few places left selling worth while souvenirs? Piedáterre. Not only do they make luxe, Venetian furlane slippers in a multitude of colors, but they also focus on their environmental impact.
